About Us

Books for Treats™ Canada is changing the way we look at Halloween. In a world battling obesity and childhood diabetes along with illiteracy – this is a single movement takes reading out of the classrooms and turns it loose on the streets. No ditching the traditions of Halloween. The parties, the costumes, the night of mischief, and *some* of the sweets, BUT with a twist. Books for Treats Canada gets you sharing comics instead of candy bars; stories instead of suckers, books instead of bon bons. Join us as we leave a lasting legacy for our children. They’ll still come home with a pile of treats. A few of those goodies will just last a bit longer and be cause for unrestrained imagination.

Our Vision:

Books for Treats™ Canada believe in championing the imaginations of all Canadian children through fostering a youth culture of reading and storytelling.

Our Mission:

Books For Treats™ began with a simple idea from founder Rebecca Morgan – less candy, more creativity. It blossomed into an international movement to create a community of readers through fun ways to connect to the stories of our lives. Canada joins the movement in 2012 to tell the stories of kids and families from coast to coast through the simple act of giving out books as an alternative to candy this Halloween.

Besides promoting literacy, social responsibility and helping to curb childhood obesity, kids have fun, get something cool, stay safe and feed their brains with a tasty helping of creativity. There’s not a piece of chocolate in the world that can bring all of that goodness to the table.

They will still come home with a pile of treats and some serious smiles. A few of those goodies will just last a bit longer and be cause for unrestrained imagination. Join us in the celebration as we bring Canadian content into the lives of our children in order to create pathways that support innovation, creativity, 21st century learning, literacy, health and a more connected society.

Our Key Values:

Collaboration: We believe in building a movement through relationships and collaborative action at all levels.
